Hollis + Miller Architects, an architectural design firm 100% dedicated to education, has named Dr. Michelle Chavey as the next president to lead the firm. As the first female president in the firm’s 73-year history, and fourth generation of leadership, Chavey brings 18 years of experience building strong partnerships and designing innovative learning environments across the region. Taking the reins effective October 1, Chavey succeeds retiring co-presidents Kirk Horner and John Southard, who will depart in December following decades-long careers with the firm.

HMA is one of the longest running architecture firms in the region and home to the third largest interior design team, according to Kansas City Business Journal rankings. Focusing solely on research-based educational design, Chavey has spent her career at the firm, evolving from an architect to spearheading the firm’s research efforts. As a senior partner, she will continue to drive innovation and research-based design furthering the firm’s mission to co-create impactful learning environments. In her new role, Chavey will build upon the leadership foundation in place and focus on vision and strategy for the firm’s offices in Kansas City, Mo and Castle Rock, Colo.
