Previously a historic elementary school, the newly renovated junior high offers state-of-the-art facilities and programs for 6th through 9th grades on base at Fort Leavenworth.
Patton Junior High School is situated on a large military base in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Designed with the overarching concept of “celebration of place,” the new learning environment reflects the strong history and community connections of years past. Over 50% of Patton students are only able to spend one school year on base, so the district worked diligently to co-create a building instilling excitement in students and impacting families.
The student-centric building offers transformative educational delivery methods, laying the groundwork for high-school and further education. Interior design attributes portray a modern and flexible learning environment for students while giving subtle nods to the surrounding natural landscape of the Kansas prairie. The spacious, open media center serves as the heart of the building, with wings spanning off for each grade level. The result is an aesthetic, modern environment putting on display the unique diversity and culture of the community.
Celebration of place Nestled into a winding bend of the Missouri River, the Fort Leavenworth army base is known for its historic sites, homes and beautiful landscape. As a nod to the rich history of the base and celebrating connections to army traditions, natural colors and wood tones establish a peaceful space while subtly connecting students to the physical environment, reflected in the flooring pattern mimicking that of the river.
