Truman State University Athletics
An athletic experience for the collective campus and surrounding community.

Truman State University’s James S. Stokes Stadium was built in the early 1900’s, a large concrete and metal structure. As the university grew, the need for additional program space as well as event space grew along with it. The desire for a gathering area that could host important donors, university staff, and VIP ticket holders became a necessity. Home to football, and now able to host soccer, track and field teams, a flexible space in the stadium would have an impact on the entire campus community.

Visitors now have a sense of arrival while approaching the stadium, taking in the updated façade and new bulldog graphic. The press box walls boast images of historical university figures, instilling school pride in each visitor. Indoor and outdoor balcony areas offer a variety of views, providing options for hosting hospitality events. The multi-use stadium is also used for commencement ceremonies, and accessibility was at the front of mind during design to ensure even the upper seating areas were accessible to all.
