The renovations at Blue Valley High School have transformed the Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) and Fashion, Apparel and Interior Design (FAID) spaces into modern learning environments that blend professional-grade experiences with practical skill development. These spaces are designed to serve two purposes: preparing students interested in culinary or design careers with industry-standard facilities while equipping all students with essential life and home skills.

Culinary Space Design

The reimagined culinary program features a 951-square-foot lecture space connected to a 970-square-foot kitchen/lab through a demo station equipped with cameras and television displays for clear student observation. The lab contains six fully equipped workstations—each with prep sinks and tables, cooktops, hand sinks, shelving, warmers and pan racks—that encourage teamwork while mirroring real-world culinary environments. An expansive storage room houses two commercial refrigerators, a freezer, ice machine, scullery sink, prep table, washer and dryer, and extensive shelving to support professional food safety protocols.

FAID Classroom Experience

The FAID classroom, relocated from a smaller space within what is now the kitchen/lab area, occupies what was previously a forum space. The new space room features individual workstations with sewing machines, four lab tables for collaborative projects, ample storage and a dedicated teacher’s workstation.
