Familiar natural elements, calming colors, and inspiring environmental graphics will foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for families and students at King Elementary.
Scheduled to open in Fall 2026, King Elementary School will be more than a place for learning—it will become a vibrant hub designed to inspire, empower, and connect students and families alike. In addition to the elementary school, the new construction will feature a 100% HeadStart-rated early childhood center providing young learners with a strong foundation for lifelong growth and success, as well as a family empowerment center where families can engage and thrive alongside their students.
Drawing from the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other influential minority leaders, this 128,000-square-foot facility will reflect a commitment to fostering creativity, equity, and limitless potential for every student and family. Portraits of historical minority leaders, accompanied by their most inspiring quotes, will be displayed throughout the building, serving as daily reminders of perseverance, hope and achievement.
The thematic concept, “Rooted in Community,” will be woven throughout the design with bright, welcoming spaces and calming colors intertwined with familiar natural elements to create a comforting and supportive atmosphere. The commons area will feature an open-concept design with floor-to-ceiling windows to fill the space with natural light and emphasize connection and belonging. Flexible furniture will fill dedicated learning spaces, including a vibrant media center, flex maker space, and multiple collaboration spaces to encourage creativity and adaptability.
Every detail will support equal opportunities, nurture student growth and foster a love of learning. As a trauma-informed school, the design of King Elementary will prioritize creating a safe, nurturing environment that honors and supports the diverse experiences of its students and families, ensuring that all students feel valued, protected and ready to thrive.
