A long-awaited vision becomes reality as Smith-Cotton High School unveils a dynamic athletics complex designed to elevate performance, foster school pride, and unite the district through shared spaces and spirited competition.
Smith-Cotton High School opened in 2009, but the district’s long-term vision for a complete, on-campus athletics complex couldn’t be realized until voters passed a 2023 bond issue. With that support, the district partnered with Hollis + Miller to bring the vision to life—developing a comprehensive athletics complex that proudly showcases school pride.
The new facilities were designed to meet both competitive and community needs while fostering a strong sense of identity. The complex includes competition-ready baseball and softball fields, featuring collegiate-style dugouts, batting cages and bullpens. Between the two fields sits a large, centrally located concession stand that includes storage space and restrooms, providing convenience for athletes, fans and event staff alike. Eight post-tensioned concrete tennis courts, a dedicated soccer stadium, and a versatile practice area with two football fields and one soccer field create a well-rounded offering for student-athletes. Additionally, relocated areas for track and field events—such as jumping and throwing—enhance accessibility and flow throughout the complex.
These facilities not only support Smith-Cotton High School’s programs but are also used by schools throughout the district, making the complex a hub for athletics and community connection. With thoughtful design and a focus on school pride, the new complex is more than just a place to play, it’s a lasting investment in student success and district unity.
